Escaping kept me sane: Harry Rock

In 1985, at the urging of his wife and daughter, Harry Rock wrote an account of his wartime service with the Royal Marines and of his imprisonment at the hands of both the Italians and the Germans. Although he describes his report as a “rough outline of events”, it is, in fact, a detailed and compelling account of the adventures of an indomitable man who risked his life in several escapes because, in his own words, “it was a challenge and it kept me sane”.

The Monte San Martino Trust is grateful to Harry Rock’s daughter, Karen Bowe, and her family, for letting us publish this story.
